While Adventure Riding as a concept has existed since the first motorcycle was built, Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman’s Long Way Round and later Long Way Down trips and TV series are widely acknowledged as the catalyst for bringing Adventure Riding into the public eye, and the subsequent emergence of adventure riding as one of the fastest growing motorcycle segments worldwide.
Charlie Boorman made the announcement on BBC Radio 5 live’s programme with Nihal Arthanayake and Sarah Brett. During the chat Boorman told the presenters: “We always talked about doing a third one, whether that’s South America or somewhere else in the world…”
…
When Arthanayake asked: “Not the middle east?” Boorman replied with: “Well not at the moment but, you know, everything changes, but you know I’d love to do another one with Ewan and we said that maybe we do it when we’re much older and really grumpy”

I’ve recently finished another reading of the book about their first adventure and there was plenty of “grumpy” in there, so older and grumpier should be quite entertaining. I wonder if they will stick with riding BMW or will KTM come to the party this time?
Charlie Boorman is a spokesman for Triumph now, so that’s a 3rd option.
From the horses mouth, Charley Boorman posted a photo of himself, Ewan McGregor, and Long Way Round/Long Way Down producer Russ Malkin on Twitter just a few days ago indicating that a Long Way Up ride was at least being discussed.
You know, even though the long way round was an awesome event it got a bit painful listening to Charlie whining all the way through it. He was worried about this and concerned about that. In his Dakar doco he was spent the first half worried for himself and after he’d damaged himself spent the rest worried about Simon Pavey!
I know it’s easy to criticise parked on my butt but watching the long way round I kept thinking – choose the right bikes and get Sean Clarke to take you!!
Having said all this I’ll be watching and dreaming of getting off my well proportioned ass to do the same!!
So with Charlie Boorman having connections with Triumph and Ewan McGregor connected to Moto Guzzi would they be riding the Triumph Scrambler 1200, the Moto Guzzi V85TT or one of each?
Charlie Boorman has recently stated that the project for Long Way Up should start in a few months.

Still waiting for my invite. I could learn to whine…
So the rumour mill is going crazy today as Ewan has been spotted in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina in the last few days.
Further South in Ushuaïa, Southern Argentina 4 Harley Davidson Livewire e-bikes along with 4 EV Ute’s from EV Manufacturer Rivian, and 2 petrol Mercedes vans and a petrol Utes.
Ewan is known to be an EV fan owning an EV converted VW Beetle and having filmed documentaries about EV development.

It’s been confirmed that Long Way Up is indeed using the new Harley Davidson Livewire e-bike with Ewan McGregor spotted riding his Livewire in southern Argentina.
The Long Way Up team arrived in Los Angeles 2 days ago so have finished the ride. Who knows how long editing will take before the film/TV Series is available.
The trailer for The Long Way Up has been released.
