Motorcycle rider Fang Jen lives in Chongzuo, a city in the Guangxi Zhuang province of China, and was upset as the silencer of his motorbike broke. If Fang had enough money, he’d probably have bought a new one, but as money was exactly the thing he missed, he decided to go freestyle tuning: bamboo!
Little did Fang know about how good bamboo was for motorcycle exhaust pipes: he thought the bamboo silencer would soon burn off, but he did many miles on his Dayang bike and the custom exhaust is still in great condition!
A local TV station got wind pf this peculiar way to customize a bike and visited Fang Jen. They were all astonished to learn that the bamboo “can” was in fact quieter than the standard metal exhaust.
No dynojet tests were carried out to see if the bamboo silencer was also improving the power of the bike, but we can vouch some riders with the sense of humor and a dyno will soon try this.
