GPS basics: Routes versus tracks

Adventure Rider Magazine has put together a little article about GPS Routes vrs GPS Tracks, and why the Garmin Zumo range isn’t the best choice for Adventure Riders.

I’ve used a couple of Zumo for tracks, the 660 (not great) and the 590 (better). I agree that the Montana for example is better for tracks, but I’d suggest people’s first priority is looking at what functionality they want from their GPS.

The Zumo can act as a hub, controlling mobile and linking to helmet and as a music library as well as accepting outside media sources (on the 590 onwards anyway). IIRC, the Montana was more restricted on this side of functionality.

Ultimately of course, if you’re going to rely on technology, you better know how to use it 😀
