KTM are developing a new range of middleweight V-twin engines to plug the gap between the small capacity singles, and large-capacity V-twins already in production.
The decision to build a new range of 600 to 800cc V-twins was revealed by Stefan Pierer – the boss of KTM and sister firm Husqvarna – at the Milan show.
Pierer told MCN: “We will have a new KTM mid-class of bikes within around three years. We are looking at the way this will happen, but we are working on 600 to 800cc V-twins.”
Although he wouldn’t be drawn on any further detail about the bikes, it’s known from insiders that the exact capacity of these new engines have not been set in terms of the lowest, but it has been capped at 800cc at the largest so as not to clash with the bigger bikes.
These new engines will be also be available for use in the Husqvarna model range, further bolstering the firm’s market strength, and diversity. Husqvarna showed two concepts based around a modified KTM 390cc motor in Milan, and Pierer promised the famous Swedish brand would be launching a completely new range of road bikes spanning every capacity from 125cc through to 1300cc.
Wouldn’t it be nice if those clowns would get their existing shyte sorted before starting a whole batch of new headaches, groaaan.
Got 2 mates with 1190’s and both are warranty nightmares/ workshop orphans.
Another mate with a 690 which has been a lemon since day1 (bought new) and spent over 200 days at the dealers over the last 12 months.
Not that the Huskies TR models still built under BMW ownership are much better (got one of those myself).
