Anyone keen for a afternoon/ evening ride, Ohinewhi and Wiati Rds today?
Sorry Son’s 21st birthday tonight
All good mate ride didn’t go to plan anyway… I rode Churchill east Rd and snuck through some subdivision construction sites (not ripping up the place just calmly riding the dirt) but had a minor farkle failers so it was home before heading to Ohinewhi road. American quality disentangle extend to their plastic mounting brackets, cheers Trailtech…
Not an Adventure Ride but next Sunday I’m thinking of heading over to Whangamata to have a look at Beach Hop.
As weather looks good for this Wednesday (2nd), I plan to head out north west for some gentle gravel, probably up the coast. Would be happy for some company, though I may be much too slow for most folk on here (newbie to gravel, and on Honda 150). Set out from Te Kowhai around 9-30 ish, to suit.
I know it’s short notice but I’m going to head out about 11:30 today for a short ride. Probably Scotman Valley road from Tauwhare out towards Morrinsville.
Meet Sunday morning leaving from Caltex Dinsdale at 9:00am to head up the Te Akau Coast – Raglan to Port Waikato.
Hi Eddie, I’m keen if you’re still heading out. See you at 9:00. Nick
Hi NIck
I’m not the organiser and I think they are leaving 9 sharp so best to be there early.
Big thanks to @chentengchris for organising todays ride. In total 13 people turned up on 12 bikes, with 2 riders who had never been on gravel before, and another for who it was only their 2nd time.
Meetup at Dinsdale Caltex
A scenic stop on Pukewera Road
At Port Waikato
It was a good ride!

Anyone riding tomorrow?
Well, I went out on my own again and found some new gravel I hadn’t ridden before – Piakonui Road.
I found myself at The Okoroire pub again where there were about a dozen bikes and some nice hot rods.
I’m more than likely going to head out again this coming Saturday as that looks like the best weather for this weekend. Not sure where yet but considering heading down to Putararu and checking some roads out there, particularly Pinedale Road, East off SH1 just past the Timber Museum, and depending on how the energy levels are Keaoroa Road from beside HoroHoro School off SH30.
I was trying to figure out if there was a through route from South Road heading out of Mamaku over to SH1 Tokoroa way but I don’t think there is.
Well no one replied and you missed out on an adventurous ride, and I think I found a way through from Tokoroa to Mamaku, but I broke down on the way and didn’t make it all the way through.
Pending the weather and my health being ok I’m intending to head out Saturday morning and complete the unfinished Tokoroa to Mamaku track. Once at Mamaku check out the access to Leslie-Cecil Road which I understand has recently been illegally blocked by the local council.
From there who knows but maybe head up to Okoriore Pub for lunch.
Anyone interested in coming meet at Caltex Hillcrest, gassed up and ready to leave at 10am.
Turns out there are a couple of old Rail tunnels just South of Cecil/Leslie Roads, but not accessible from them.
Turning off at Lichfield to Ngatira Road beside the sheepskin shop and in there supposedly. They’re on the list to check out on the way.

Hi team,
Just relocated from Auckland to Hamilton, looking to go exploring in the area with other adventure riders, please hit me up I will be keen to tag along. I have a 2013 F800 GSA so will need all the help in the dirt when I drop it lol.
thanks
Hi ADV77
Happy to go for a day ride on the weekends now that the weather is improving. South Raglan, Port Waikato, Otorohanga, Kawhia, Waitomo, Marokopa…there are plenty of gravel roads to explore, all suitable for your bike.
Drop me a line and we can meet for a chat as I am gonna stay in Hamilton this weekend.
Hi,
This forum had gone quiet for a bit, so nice to see some life. I’m Hamilton based and would be interested in meeting up with other riders. Often go out alone at the moment. Can do w/e or mid week as am semi retired. Only riding an XT250 and not an expert on gravel, so speed might be a bit slow for some folks. Anyone interested in leisurely local or semi-local rides please get in touch.
Bill
Hoping to be semi retired soon, but keen to get out and ride with like minded members. We both (wife and I) have BMW G310GS bikes and are not fast on them.
Weather looks OK for tomorrow (Sunday 13th) so will go out for a gentle ride, somewhere west coast from Hamilton with a cafe half way. Please message if anyone cares to join. Probably head off around 10.
Bill
Will probably head out for another gentle ride this Saturday 2/11 as the weather looks OK. Will check the site friday night to see if any interest, or email me directly. If interested, Whatawhata near the petrol station is a good place to team up, say 10AM.
Maybe next time BILLBEN, I live just down the road from Whatawhata so know all of west coast roads and tracks well.
There are some great roads from Kawhia all the way up to Port Waikato.
Heading to Wellsford tonight for the Kaipara 600 ADV ride.
Weather looking good for Saturday 23/11, so will aim to do a fairly local ride with a coffee stop (some adventure!)
Start from Whatawhata petrol station about 10 on Jack Jones if no-one else about.
Will be off grid Weds/Thurs testing new bike carrier so no immediate replies.
Happy trails
Bill
Raglan Adventure Ride, Saturday February 29th 2020.
Entry is online via link below.
Anyone heading out in the Waikato tomorrow?
So I had a good ride down to Tokoroa then over to Mamaku via Mamaku South Road.
Does anyone know anywhere in Hamilton where I could get an exhaust sniffer stuck down the pipe on my bike at idle to see if it’s running lean or rich?I only need to know at idle.
Always keen to get out there ride alone most of the time but would be good to have a couple of other riders with me from time to time.
Triumph tiger 800xc semiretired available most weekends
Hi Bruce,
I’m keen to ride along as well, I have sent you a private message with my cellphone number.
Raul
Hi middle-aged newbie, also looking for someone to ride with from time to time.
Hi any one riding in the Waikato area tomorrow
I’m going to head out his afternoon, no idea in what direction yet though.
Just saw your reply now. I went for a trail ride instead. Thanks for the reply. I am always keen for a ride on weekends.
Hi all,
Going to stay in Taumaranui this weekend (30th Jan – 1st Feb) and plan on doing the 42nd traverse and probably the Fisher track and another road recommended by Eddie – can’t recall name but is on this site (yes, should have found it first). Saturday or sunday or any combination. Will be staying at the Taumaranui camp south of town with wife, Caravan and dog. Riding my XR650R and happy to do the ride on my own but if anyone is keen sing out.

Hi @bruce_follas
Just found this website and also ride mostly on my own. Would be very keen to get more involved in some rides. Happy to do sealed roads, unsealed roads and some easier single track rides.
Dave.
Hi @Damian Pethica
Just found this website and also looking for someone to ride with. I know a couple of people with sport bikes but nobody with an adventure bike. Love twisty sealed roads, unsealed roads [Like Raglan to Kawhia] and would like to get up to some easier single track rides.
Dave.
Hi Dave I would certainly be up for joining you for some rides but I will not be able to until towards the end of the year
Also in the Waikato and keen for some winter / spring rides.
I dont do cold rainy days though, cant be bothered with that nowadays.
Since we are now allowed out for picnics, I am thinking of taking a ride out from Hamilton to the Te Akau coast road – staying within Waikato lock down boundary – and taking the billy for a brew up with lunch. Weather looks good early next week. Tuesday (2nd) current choice. If there are any other workshy types who can ride mid-week, feel free to message me to sort timing.
NB: I am seriously lacking in skill and only travel at the upper end of mobility scooter speeds, so faster/less slow riders may want to pass.
I cannot make next week but will be keen to get out from mid November on
