Meet at 9:30am at Whatawhata for a gentle cruise out to Raglan for brunch.

Only a little ride today as lots of the guys only have a few hours spare, though people are free to carry on to other places if they wish.

After everyone else piked out today I had a great solo ride just cruising along and doing some exploring.

First up was out past Bridal Veil falls and along Kawhia Road and South onto the Kawhia to Raglan road to Kawhia for an early lunch.

After lunch I nosed around a few dead ends in the area then headed home via Pirongia West Road.

Kawhia Road

Aotea Lagoon, near Kawhia

The North side of Aotea Lagoon has some very inviting looking sand dunes

Old Pirongia Road

I’m hoping to head out Sunday for a short ride, probably just Hamilton To Raglan and back, poassibly via Old Mountain Road. It will entirely depend on how my energy levels are.

Rod Peterson and I are taking a ride today in the west Waikato heading south down to Raglan and back. Leaving Les Baskin Reserve just outside Tuakau at circa 8:30 am this morning. Meet us at the reserve if you’d like to ride along.

I didn’t get any takers to join me to day so I went for a random wander on my own. As it was a solo ride I posted some words and pictures in my Eddie’s Random Adventures thread.

I was out and about in Raglan and the lower end of the Te AKau coast today so kept an eye out but didn’t see you.

Anyone riding out of Hamilton this morning?

Eddieb Brodie

Had a good ride today, though no takers at such short notice. It was my first time out in a month and possibly the last chance for another month. There’s just too much stuff on at the moment.

A big loop East of Hamilton and then following the patch of blue sky led me to The Bike Shed at the Okoroire Pub.

On the way I made some new friends

Lunch was bloody good, 3 pieces of fish even in the fish and chip meal

Caught up with there with his awesome R1200GS sidecar and another local member.

I also found a new gravel road to check out and track on the GPS, though I didn’t go up it. Piakonui Rd in Richmond Downs, sort of North West of Matamata.

Is anyone interested in a mid week lunch in Central Hamilton once a month or something?

Peter

We had a good ride to Fletchers bay and discussed a west coast ride down to Awakino stay over night probably in February as we are apon the silly season . Where would we stay any good lodges or such in the area

Peter
2026 years ago

After the success of the Fletchers Bay ride we are planning another ride to Mokau running down the Raglan coast then returning back thru Waitomo and home to Aucks . Hopefully the boys from BOP will intercept our route and join us . Looking at staying at one of the motorcamps overnight in Mokau . Planning to ride late Jan or early Feb

Keith Fenwick

I think there’s a campground at Awakino

Black Betty

Peter, At Mokau there is the Seaview Hoilday Park and the Whitebait Inn ($10 sites per night). Both appear to have cabins for those that way inclined 😉

Scott Livingston

This trip heading south from Raglan and the timing both sound like a great plan Peter – already on my to do list – so please note me as a keen (tent accommodation) starter.

Peter
2026 years ago

Good stuff Scott this time we will have to be a little more organised an fit in some socialising I’ve got some great lies to tell hahaha . Would have done it this year but with two rounds of Vinduro an the Burt plus hopefully a short Tiki tour around the top of the south would have struggled to fit in earlier . I think we may have a few more this time around a few mates who missed out last time should have their shit sorted Bruce has already planned a route be good if the BOP lads met us at Raglan or Oparau.

Black Betty
2026 years ago

If I’m free I am definitely keen (another tenter). Raglan looks like a good spot to meet up. That part of the North Island is pretty much a mystery to me, so eager to explore…

MarkH

I’d be keen!
Decide on a date and let us know.

Arrrr casting aspirations on my manliness by not camping are we big call for someone whose last name is Betty me thinks I can see some lively debate at our next social hour

Badjelly

Yep – interested (luxury cabin all the way for this Aucklander), and have a mate who might head up from New Plymouth as well

That’s a great route WR DUDE, have done it many times myself.
You can also have a play on the sand dunes at port Waikato, which can be a bit of fun.

Looks like you will have great weather for it, shame that I cant join you for the ride but already planned a weekend away.

Some other time perhaps.

Simon

Looks like i cant upload the KML or GPX so if you want it then i will have to email to you.
