The new Moto Guzzi V85 concept to me is one of the coolest looking bikes to be announced so far in this years EICMA show.
Moto Guzzi says the design will appeal to riders “who, while never ceasing to dream of Dakar, yearn for a bike that revives the spirit of adventure on their daily journeys.
It is the motorcycle that was needed by an increasingly standardised market dedicated to travelling in its purest form, recalling the epic rally raids of the 1980s, a point of reference from which it inherits style, charm and thus emotion, but which has been designed to take on both everyday routes and long-distance routes, using the most up-to-date requirements.”
The V85 Concept retains Moto Guzzi’s traditional transverse 90° V-Twin structure which is claimed to produce 80hp and that this motor has been designed spcifically for the V85 and isn’t shared with any other models and Moto Guzzi guarantees “great character and the usual spectacular force at lower running speeds.”
As @McRastis mentions above Moto Guzzi are asking the ADV community for naming ideas for this V85 concept. You can find out more about the bike and submit your naming idea at: http://discoverv85.motoguzzi.com/en/.

It looks great but it’s a Guzzi, it wont be a lightweight.
I’m not up with historical Guzzi’s but it turns out the colour scheme is a homage to the 1985 Moto Guzzi V65 TT
There’s some history of the V65TT on the ParisDakar.it website, though it’s translation from Italian isn’t the best.

In just white.
As a gravel tourer, it had amazing potential, it has a classic look, of a retro scrambler but of the 80s rather than 60s. In the scrambler section the Ducati Desert Sledge will now have some serious compition (sorry Triumph remaking a classic isn’t the same as the retro modeled modern bikes on offer). if/when it’s released and if I was financial I would definitely be compearring the to Italian offerings on and oh looks alone the Guzzi has already taken the lead…

Parent company Piaggio has filed patent documents for the production model of the Moto Guzzi V85 and there are a number of differences.
The pictures below show the colour concept pics and matching gray patent images to compare differences.
Straight away we can see the tank does not come up as high or as sharply off the seat as on the concept bike with the seat reshaped to match, along with the seat not appearing as thick as on the concept. The Patent drawings show a center stand fitted.
We can also see that the front brake caliper is different and the front disc size looks smaller along with the side panel having been redesigned, but I’m sure the aftermarket will come out with side panels like the concept bike has soon enough.
On the left side we can see the exhaust is much larger and the rear brake caliper sits on the underside of the swingarm rather than above it

We should see more pictures of the V85 soon, in a recent press release Moto Guzzi announced that the V85 will appear at the upcoming Moto Guzzi ‘Open House’ event, an annual huge party for Guzzi fans that his year takes place from September 7th – 9th, 2018.
The Moto Guzzi V85 has been spotted out and about again.
It looks like Moto Guzzi have named the bike V85TT, the TT standing for Tutto Terreno which according to Google means All Terrain.
The Moto Guzzi V85 is on display at the Intermot motorcycle show which started overnight.
It has been confirmed the V85 carries a 21 litre tank and runs a 21″ front and 17″ rear wheel with the suspension only offering preload adjustablity. We’ve updated this info in our ADV motorcycle specs table and will continue to add data as it becomes available.
The V85 comes with traction control and ABS both of which are controlled via user 3 selectable options covering the usual Road, Rain, or Off-Road riding scenarios.
