Places to play about on South Island

Hi guys!

Myself and my partner will be arriving in NZ in November after riding here from the UK through central asia, siberia etc and will be spending 6-9 months on the south island. I’m looking for places to work on skills and mess around near Christchurch etc. Im happy with pay to play enduro types places or possibly free places where people go to hang and jump logs and do skids and drifts etc. In the UK it is very strict and we must not ride off legal tracks is this similar in NZ? Or is single track riding in forests allowed? In the UK i have actually raced enduros on rally bikes so love technical riding.

I might also be interested in some casual xc racing or non roadbook rallies if there are such events?

Check out our youtube and facebook to see how we got here ??

Looking forward to meeting some local riders too!

Generally speaking in NZ you have to stay on the legal tracks as well, though in the South Island especially there are quite a lot of unformed roads running over private land which vehicles are legally allowed access, though there can be issues where the established track doesn’t follow the defined legal access, or geography means the defined legal access can’t be followed.

Keep an eye out for local ‘trail’ rides and enduro events, over summer most rural areas in NZ have an event on almost every weekend, often local farmers group together to provide farm access to fundraise for their local school and the like.

Worsleys Track would be a good place to start, only a little way out of Chch.

Also check out this from the local council

Wow thanks EddieB! That last link is exactly what i was after! Right by Christchurch and absolutely tons of single trail to explore and a skills area!

In the Uk a place like this could never exist. The hikers and conservationists would have a seizure!

Many thanks

Dave
