RIP Kawasaki KLR650 ?

It’s being reported in the US that the Kawasaki KLR650 is no more.

Supposedly the information has come from up high in Kawasaki USA via a bulletin sent to all Kawasaki USA dealers.

This is sad day for KLR fans if so.

I find the timing interesting, it’s only 2 1/2 weeks till Intermot, the first of the big annual international motorcycle shows start where manufacturers announce all the new models being released for the next model year.

Could this mean Kawasaki has a replacement machine ready to go, to be announced at one of the upcoming shows? If so it would probably be the best kept secret of any new Adventure or dual sport model released in the last few years.

Apparently the KLR650 is going to be available in Australia for 2019, however here’s a copy of the USA dealer Memo.

It’s possible Kawasaki USA has decided to no longer carry the KLR650 as part of their range but it is still being manufactured, or that production has stopped and Australia has enough stock to continue selling the KLR.

So the rumour mill has started on the return of the KLR, supposedly Kawasaki reps in the USA have said a new KLR/KLR replacement is due to be announced in October 2020 as a 2021 model.
