Tauranga based Ubco, whose original 2 wheel drive ‘Work’ electric farm bike concept is now used all over the world for eco tours, and ‘Adventure’ model was released in 2020 as a road legal moped spec machine for commuters and unsealed road adventures, have just released a new model specifically aimed at fleet operators looking to electrify their current petrol powered machines.
The Ubco Duty puts Ubco squarely up against the ubiquitous Honda ‘Postie’ and it’s variations as used by Postal Delivery companies worldwide.
Unlike the Ubco 2×2 Adventure the new Duty is rear wheel drive only and is capable of speeds up to 95km/h with a range of around 100km, it also has a special Walking mode where speed is controlled to 10km/h. Carrying capacity is rated at 160kg.
The Duty was developed in conjunction with Australia Post as the existing Australian Post CT110 fleet was aging out and a lower emissions replacement was wanted. Trials in the field were held in Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmania during 2023 with test riders reporting “a better ride than the original CT110 fleet with quicker take off and no heat or noise.” The success of the field trials resulted in further refinement between both teams, including footbrakes, fairings, suspension and enhanced ergonomics and Australia Post have now ordered an initial 175 Ubco Duty machines to go into full service.
