Hi all. 3 or 4 of us want to ride from Rotorua for the Waitangi Day dawn ceremony. Where is an area close by where we can pitch our tent the night before, and leave our gear till we return in the evening?

You’ve tried Waitangi Holiday Park, 5 minutes walk from the Treaty Grounds?
Staying in Russell top 10 could be an option too. I would contact Northland ferries to see if they are making special trips from Russell to Waitangi for the service. From the wharf it’s a 1km walk to the grounds. Only thing with Paihia and Russell is they are quite pricey for tent sites!
