I’m heading to Turangi for work (from Wellington) in a couple weeks and was going to be riding up on the ‘clean bike’, but am now thinking of taking the ‘dirty bike’ (990 adv) instead and going up either Whangaehu or Turakina Valley roads. Haven’t done either before, and saw that Whangaehu was closed from cyclone Gabrielle back in Feb.
Are either worth a ride? If so, which is better? And anyone been through Whangaehu to confirm whether its open again yet?

I personally like Turakina. Its longer, windier quite narrow in places.
