New 300cc Adventure bike from Zongshen

Prelude: When we first heard about this bike it was being marketed in Europe by a Russian company called M1NSK, it wasn’t till later that we discovered it’s actually built by Zongshen.

M1NSK is a new manufacturer in the Adventure market with just one model at the moment, a 300cc single that looks like similiar to the current BMW & Triumph 800cc offerings.

The RX3 puts out 24hp pushing a dry weight of 155kg to a max speed of 140km/h, and with 25km/l fuel economy and a 15 litre tank that should give a range of 375km to a tank. The RX3 comes with the luggage as standard.

It turns out M1NSK isn’t a new manufacturer after all, more a reseller/distributor. The M1NSK TRX300i is actually a rebranded Zongshen RX3, sold under license by M1NSK as the European distributor for Zongshen.
In the UK the bike is also available as the Honley RX3 where it sells for 3700GBP.

Here’s the RX3 on Zongshen’s website.

The Zongshen RX-3 is currently undergoing US approvals for a US release by The California Scooter Co. The California Scooter Co will be selling the bike as the CSC RX-3 with an introductory price of $2835US, going up to $3495US for the 2nd shipment.

A demo Zongshen RX-3 landed in NZ last week and is going through NZTA compliance at the moment so it can be tested for NZ roads and whether there is demand for it here.

You can keep an eye on the RX3’s progress in NZ via the importer http://belamoto.nz/

Any indication of price anywhere?

We’re still working the numbers but at this stage we’re looking at between $5,000 and $6,000. Based on what it’s cost so far to bring the one in it’s at the higher end of the scale once you factor in customs fees, port service charges, agent fees etc. all of which is over and above compliance. Trust me, everyone wants a piece of the pie. That said, we should see cost efficiencies buying bulk which would bring the cost per unit down.

Hi Ed – things are moving slower than we would have liked but on the whole we’re still positive. Had some good feedback from an experienced motorcycle mechanic who said the RX3 seems pretty much on par with Honda in terms of build quality. Our focus now is on sourcing parts and how best to offer service and support. Will post again once we’ve made further progress.

CSC stands for California Scooter Co and are the American distributor for the Zongshen RX3, which is sold in the USA under the CSC brand.

CSC Updates RX3 for 2016

CSC Motorcycles has announced new features for its 2016 RX3 motorcycle today. CSC’s iconic 250cc adventure touring motorcycle will now include adjustable front forks as standard equipment. Other new features include gold anodizing on the forks, two new colors, a new handlebar finish, bar-end weights, and new graphics.

In 2016, the RX3 motorcycle’s inverted forks will include dampening adjustment that can be changed via adjustment fittings in the fork caps. The 2016 RX3 forks will also include fork upper tube gold anodizing.

New colors include Sahara Orange (a deeper orange than the 2015 model year’s orange) and metallic Sierra Silver, two colors that will be unique to the North American RX3 configuration. CSC will continue to offer last year’s metallic Garnet Red and pearlescent Ice White colors for 2016. Graphics will include a new “adventure” motif on the forward body panel. Two additional body panels beneath the fuel tank will be painted in matching colors, adding to a richer look.

“We’re excited about these changes,” said Steve Seidner, CSC Motorcycles President and Chief Executive Officer. “The RX3 motorcycle looks even better with these changes, and the adjustable front forks give riders the ability to tune the front suspension to their weight and riding style.”

The RX3, introduced to the United States and Canada by CSC Motorcycles, is the only fully-equipped 250cc adventure touring motorcycle in the North American market. The RX3 includes luggage, guards, liquid cooling, windshield, 6-speed transmission, engine skid plate, handlebar-switch-controlled accessory outlets, hydraulic disk brakes, and other adventure touring amenities. For a limited time, CSC Motorcycles is offering free shipping for 2016 RX3 pre-orders to any location in the continental United States. MSRP: $3,895. CSCMotorcycles.com

The Belamoto.nz website appears to have disappeared so the future of the RX3 in NZ appears to be in doubt. Thats a shame as I was looking forward to their being another option in NZ, especially so well priced.
