New Speed limits for 90 Mile Beach

The Te Oneroa-a-Tohe Beach Board, the organisation founded to protect 90 Mile Beach has introduced new speed limits for 90 Mile Beach.

Effective immediately the speed restriction on 90 Mile Beach – Te Oneroa-a-Tohe will be enforceable and beach signage was to be unveiled on December 22nd 2023.
The new limits are 30km/h for 200 metres either side of any beach access point and 60km/h for the rest of 90 Mile Beach.

Additional signs promoting safe driving and awareness of the beach will remind drivers to respect the spiritual pathway of Te Ara Wairua.

Te Oneroa-a-Tohe Beach Board chairperson Lisa McNab said “Please note Te Oneroa-a-Tohe is not a highway and it should be considered an ultimate privilege to use and receive from this iconic taonga. The Board hopes that beachgoers would respect the new limits and beach safety initiatives, which were designed for the wellbeing of all users.”

I’m glad I went up there before these speed limits kicked in. You need to be more careful checking the tides if your limited to 60/30.
