Hi I am a new member and would like to say hello, I have recently purchased a DR650se and have been exploring the areas around Palmerston North New Zealand.
I would like to meet up with likeminded people for rides and chit chat and to find out about any planned rides etc.
Thanks
Darryl

Hi and Welcome Darryl

We have a few members in Palmy and nearby, and others. If you are planning a ride post your ride in this thread https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/forums/topic/wanganui-manuawatu-rides/ and/or this one https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/forums/topic/wgtn-rideout/ depending on which direction you are going and maybe other riders will join up with you.

Cheers

Eddie

Hi Daryl, I am a new member too. I have a DR650 also……Massive mods and now its a real bike!
If you ever come over New Plymouth way then I will persuade the wife that I maybe Need to take you on a days tour. I will test your riding skills to the max. You will end up getting very dirty and have a grin ear to ear!

Have you done any mods yet?

Hi Major Bumsaw
The only mods I have done so far are to fit a bash plate and fit a 14 tooth front sprocket this has made the bike a bit nicer to ride especially off road.
It would be great to catch up at some point in the future. I would like to liven up the engine at some point.

Based in National Park, right next to 42nd Traverse and Fishers Track. Keen to get out and explore on my new (to me) F650GS Dakar. Total newbie, only had my bike for a month so hoping to learn heaps from some seasoned riders!

Hi all,

Been in town for a month now and itching to get on the bike and explore…alas…bike only arriving mid Jan’19.

Does anybody have dirt routes to share for the area?

Cheers!

Have you checked out our North Island GPS tracks map? zoom into the Wanganui area and you’ll find some.

https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/gps-tracks-rides/north-island-tracks/

is organising a ride later this month.

Cool, will have a look.

Looking to go up to Hamilton end Jan for the 7’s and make a trip out of it by riding as much gravel as possible.

Do you or someone you know perhaps have Garmin TOPO maps for NZ which I can use in MAPSOURCE?

Cheers.

That’s part of the Whanganui River Road

Have you checked out the NZ Open GPS Map project? they used to have a free Topo option

Hi Charl, how long have you been in NZ?
There is an Android APP called New Zealand Maps that gives you the topo maps of NZ.

I’ve been in NZ for just over a month now. Container and bike should be in Whanganui mid Jan’19…CAN’T WAIT ANYMORE!! Need to get on the bike.

First trip will be up to Hamilton for the 7’s over the weekend of 26 & 27 Jan.

Greetings all

I’m planning a ride from Dannevirke to Mangatutu Hot Springs on Friday 29 December, staying at the Doc site for two nights and heading home on Sunday morning, 31 December.

The site is basic so you’ll need to bring everything you need. The brochure says there are hot springs to soak in and lots to do.
https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/places-to-go/hawkes-bay/places/kaweka-forest-park/things-to-do/campsites/mangatutu-hot-springs-campsite/

Let me know if you’re interested. I’ll leave the Mobil at the Napier end of Dannevirke at around 9:00am.

Cheers

Peter

Is anyone keen for a ride tomorrow? I’ll be free to head out at 11:00 from my place in Eketahuna. I’m thinking of going to Tora or white rock but open to other ideas. I’m new to Adventure riding.
