Husqvarna has released first images and details of it’s new 700cc powered bike as a supermoto. Rumours were circulating in late 2014 that this motor was going to replace KTM’s 690 after KTM purchased Husqvarna in 2013.

We perhaps over-thought Husqvarna’s first proper street bike announcement, as the firm has debuted the Husqvarna 701 supermoto at the EICMA show today.
Refining its 701 concept from last year’s show, the 2015 Husqvarna 701 is a 690cc supermoto, that continues to borrow from KTM’s common parts bin.
Putting down 67hp through the big four-stroke thumper, the Husqvarna 701 supermoto tips the scales at 320 lbs (145kg), and comes with an APTC slipper clutch, ABS brakes, WP suspension, and ride-by-wire with different riding modes.
Getting 4.2 gallons of fuel, the Husqvarna 701 should be great for commuting through urban environments, as well as hitting the twisties outside of town.

Husqvarna have offically announced the 701 Enduro as a 2016 model.
Husqvarna unveiled long range tanks for the 701 at the Milan bike show overnight.
Husqvarna are also trying to get into street bikes using this motor and have created the Svartpilen 701.
The 701E looks the business and at 145kg dry its fairly light too. The big feature though is the big price. 17,000nzd easy and that’s with no extras. A 2nd hand 690E would be almost the same bike (different colours) and much less cost. But some like to have the newest of the new. For over 7000 less, I’m expecting plenty of power and comfort with all the ADV extras included on my new 2012 bike that I should be riding by this time next week 🙂 🙂
Husqvarna updates 701 Enduro for 2017
Husqvarna Motorcycles has announced a range of updates for the 701 Enduro and 701 Supermoto for 2017.
The updates not only see the new models comply with the new, strict Euro 4 emission levels, but also deliver an increase in performance through the most powerful single-cylinder engine ever developed by the firm.
Both machines will see an improvement in power output, with the engine making an extra 6bhp and offering an additional 3.0Nm (2.2lbft) of torque compared to the previous models. This now means that the 693cc engine now puts out 74bhp at 8,000rpm and 71Nm (52lbft) of torque.
Husqvarna has also taken steps to improve the reliability of the models with “the use of innovative solutions such as the active evacuation and forced lubrication of the crankcase [ensuring] long 10,000km (6,213 mile) service intervals”.
Power delivery on the motorcycle is provided by a “state-of-the-art” four-valve cylinder head with a twin spark ignition, while the single overhead camshaft technology is said to allow for more exact valve timing at higher engine speeds, and an extra 1000rpm of usable power.
A second counter balancer shaft has also been added with the aim of enhancing comfort and limiting vibrations. Beyond that, the Keihin electronic fuel injection features a new 50mm throttle body that has no mechanical linkage to the throttle grip and is said to offer better throttle response and ride-ability at small throttle valve positions.
Rounding out the updates to the 701 Enduro is a makeover to the bike’s aesthetics, with Husqvarna keen to stay true to its Swedish heritage while keeping things looking current.
The Svartpilen was shown again at the 2017 EICMA show in Milan, there have been some design changes but no real information.
I don’t see how the tail section could make it into production as I thought Euro law was that the rear tyre cannot be the rearmost part of the bike.
Hi all, I’ve got a new Husky 701 Enduro and loving it. I changed the seat for a Seat Concepts, added rear rack and locally-made exhaust heat shield for my Andy Strapz throw-over panniers, barkbusters, Wolfman tank bag and Madstad adjustable clear windscreen for long trips. It’s light, agile and smooth. Power is quite amazing and fuel use averaging 23km/litre without being consciously economical. 17k sounds a lot but compare power to weight with a BMW800GS or Triumph Tiger800XC and it’s looking better. Much more fun off road and plenty fast enough for the street. There’s a few round here in Nelson and seem to be well regarded. Cheers, Joe
The Svartpilen 701 has just been confirmed as a 2019 production model, though if/when it will make it’s way to our shores and at what price is still unknown.

10,000km update. No problems to report. Camchain tensioner adjusted. Drop oil every 5000kms, replace filters and clean screens. Running beautifully, happy camper!
This is the most exciting bike of the show for me.The 701 Long Range
Finally and adventure bike with great fuel range, Switchable ABS / Traction control and dual engine maps all in a package at 155kgs.
Husqvarna has announced a new 701 model variation for the 2020 model year, the 701LR – Long range.
Essentially it’s a 701 with a factory big gas tank and all the required bits to make that work and look good. The 12 litre tank is located in the traditional tank position and adds to the existing 701 rear subframe tank for a total of 25 litres on board, which Husqvarna state will give riders around 500km range. Dual fuel pumps allow riders to choose which tank fuel is being taken from.
Along with the big tanked LR the 701 range including the Enduro and Supermoto all get new electronic riders aids including new switchable ride modes, Bosch cornering ABS system with lean angle sensors, and a new “easy shift” feature that Husqvarna claims shortens gear changes and improves rear wheel traction including while leaned over.

Hi all, sadly the 701 is no longer in my possession. Broke a circlip and chewed up gears at 12,000km. Very disappointed, but the upside is I now have a KTM790 Adventure S. Teething trouble with this too. First coolant leaking, then repeatedly flat battery. Replaced headlight (!) then new battery. Time will tell if it’s gonna be reliable. Love riding it though!
Bugger about the 701, did they fix it under warranty ??
25k on mine now and now issues other than the clutch slave cylinder seal.
Well I needed a bike for adventure ride to the Burt, so traded it. Had two days to run in the ktm, get first service done and head off. KTM very confident off road, nicely balanced and light feeling. Probably more sensible for me. I still miss the Husky though. Hey maybe I’ll buy it back when it’s had the engine replaced!
