Yep, you and anyone can come on any bike, I’ve just put 800CC and above to invite the Bigbike riders, but all bikes/riders are welcome.
If you can bring some cones, please do. I think we can make something with them! 🙂
This is more of a beginners ride rather than a “formal training day”, I leave that to the pros 😉
Joao
I would like to come along also. I’ve got a small bike but it’s still bigger than my skills base:) I’ve got lots to learn. Also happy to push.
Cheers
Richard
Sounds interesting, I’ve been hoping for some guys to help me when I get stuck.
Not brave enough to try and get off the beach at Rimmers or Wilsons rd on my lone morning rides
Been having trouble changing my bike details on the site but swapped my 950 for a 1200GSA (another 30kg or so 🙂 )
It would be rude and (in my case) foolish not to take up your kind offer of riding tuition and advice Joao, so please count me in – weather dependant. I’ll be representing Massey Ferguson, on board a DR650. Thanks.
Well I’m happy to see that there is interest in doing this. This is hardly going to be a tuition or even advice… it is going to be more of a noob-to-nood advice sharing 😀 and adventurous riding. Don’t come with high expectations on my part 😀
Yes weather dependent, we will see what it turns out on the day.
Cheers
Hi,
I think this can be useful for most of us before the Saturday ride.
http://2wheelsadventure.com/HowToRideAMotorcycleOffRoad070212.pdf
Hi,
So the weather is looking promising for Saturday… (after the last couple of days I was thinking we would have trouble…)
http://www.metservice.com/towns-cities/auckland/auckland-central
Looking forward to next saturday.
Just some house keeping. The low tide for Muriwai is at 14:00 so if we are keen we can access and ride on the beach.
For those who do not have a permit, please apply for one just in case at http://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/EN/licencesregulations/drivingonbeaches/Pages/home.aspx
The permit is free and is available immediately.
Looking forward to Saturday.
Joao
Sounds Good
Do you want me to connect this to FB page or do we keep the rabble out 🙂
R1200GSA
I don’t have/use facebook, so up to you mate, feel free.
Hi,
I am still in, apart from riding on the beach.
Andrew
You aint lived till you’ve ridden in the sand Andrew
PS, no big deal either way for me as was in it last week (my KLR lives in the stuff)
I’m planning to be there. See you all at 9.
Should be good tomorrow, see you all at 9.
Yep see you there
(Meeting at Riverhead Z petrol station, 1090 Coatesville-Riverhead Hwy, Auckland 0820, and go from there.)
Hope you guys are good at pushing bikes though 🙂
R1200GSA
A huge thank you to Joao for organising today, I had a blast. Hope everyone got home safe and Mike (I think) you are feeling better!
I feel knackered, but good knackered.
Great Day! Thank you guys for coming along.
There was hardly any pushing of big bikes after all!
🙂
Joao

KLR Ramblers ride – April
It was dragging on for a while, but the details are here finally. Unfortunately I cannot be there, but I hope you still can do it. It can be a good follow-up ride to put the stuff we learned on Joao’s awesome ride yesterday (08/04/2017) into practice.
All kind of bikes are welcome, not just KLR.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2017/04/09/klr-ramblers-ride-april/
Hi Andrew, last KLR Ramblers ride was awesome!
I’m definitely going to be in on this Saturday (15/04/2017).
Anton.
Hi there, would the ride be ok for pillion?
‘@Mark Claasen are you going to post the auckland ride pics from the last ride?
I’m all thumbs when it comes to this forum stuff now, we see if I get a chance later to figure out how to do in volume
Hi @sushibar,
Not my ride but seeing as no one else has answered your question and I know those roads, I say yes.
KLR Rumblers site says ….”Be prepared to ride on gravel (in various conditions) and sealed public roads.”… So as long as you and your pillion are ok on gravel, then fine. A few bits can be a bit rough, but you just slow down, right?
Better take your wet gear!
Cheers
Ive got about 8min long video clip of the ride. I can post a link here if you want. I did put up a part of it on the Wilson Road Muriwai Beach page.
I have lots of footage from the morning until the battery ran out. but I edit my videos before posting… and that normally takes about 1 year 😀
feel free to post what you guys have. and if you are curious and want to watch some portuguese accent comentary and the ocasional swearing … jump to my youtube channel. :]

Cheers and thanks again Joao.
Great Stuff, thank you for sharing!
Joao
‘@OldBeer, I enjoyed watching the “full clip”. So what’s the story about the bike in the last few frames of the video?
Thanks gents, I will come depending on weather, alone!
No people animals or DR650s were harmed in the making of this video! I just went back to help pick up the bike, especially as that person had done the same for me earlier when I did the same thing. Happily my camera was off at the time. Other than that, what goes on tour……
A great day all round.
Hi,
Finally I had time to process the pictures.
You can find it here:

Andrew
Hi,
You can find the ride report from the KLR Ramblers’ April ride here.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2017/04/20/april-ride-report/
All the kudos goes to Anton for being the “road captain” this time.
See you soon on the May ride.
Andrew
Thanks Mike Harrison for the invite to the Deer Rustler Trail ride, was great, good training for me. Well worth the entry fee.
KLR Ramblers Ride May
If you are looking for a gravel ride on the Saturday 20 May. Here are the details of our May ride.
Everyone is welcome, this isn’t a KLR only ride.

Andrew
Great Ride Andrew. Video off the non KLR’s when on their own

Great ride guys.
you were going fast!!! 🙂
thank you for sharing.
Hello everyone,
I am happy if you enjoyed it.
Here is a very brief report from the ride and a few photos.

Andrew
Lol yes, was first time property on metal for GSA so we were putting it through its paces
Came through very well, very nimble I thought for its size.
Needed Rob Roy on AT to give us some good pace, those old AT’s ridden well are something else (Good)

Trail ride at Woodhead today
Stuck on a Sandy hill. I got better with practice. .
KLR Ramblers ride – June
If you are looking for an easy but fun gravel oriented ride, look no further.
The details are all here:
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2017/06/10/klr-ramblers-ride-june/
This time the GPX file is again more in the rally style. It doesn’t have a track, but the way-points and a route. If you are using it in your GPS be careful! “Clever” GPS devices can take you places where you did not want to go, thanks to the auto routing function. 🙂
All kind of bikes are welcome, not just KLR.
Andrew
Might turn up for this one Andrew. Will see you if I see you tomorrow!
This was the picture I was trying to post earlier. I didn’t quite have the nerve to gun it over that fallen tree (twig?) hence lost momentum with the inevitable result of getting stuck.
Thanks Andrew and John for a great ride Saturday. Burma Road was great, can’t wait to go back and do it again.
Hi,
Here is a short ride report with a few pictures from the June KLR Ramblers ride.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2017/06/24/june-ride-report/
I watched a very interesting video tonight and could not resist to re-blog it.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2017/06/26/dying-breed/
Big, single cylinder bikes will not disappear from one day to the other, but how long can we buy new ones?
Andrew
Would have loved to have done this one…
Were is Burma road?
Joao
and why hasn’t anyone sent in a GPS track for Burma Road?
Cos we forgot…ill just have to go again!
Bugger!
