Joao, it’s a little loop road off Run Road on the way to the Okahukura Peninsula. Great views over the Kaipara. Would be perfect today, sunny and no howling westerly! Just another great bit of gravel around Auckland. I’ll post next time I head up there.
Please publish the date here. I don’t have facebook, so I can follow.

Auckland Riders,
Hello. I hope this post finds everyone well.
I am writing to the ‘Auckland Riders’ audience to learn if anyone may be able to recommend an independent, affordable, or semi-retired motorcycle engine rebuilder located in the Auckland area. Specifically, I am interested in corresponding with a mechanic or business that may be able to replace a countershaft or output shaft in an older Honda V-Twin 750.
Thanks in advance!

I was wondering where to go today so I invented the Trans Auckland Trail – just like the other TAT but a bit quicker and less muddy. Well nothing like the other TAT really but hey, it was sunny two days in a row!
Went from home in the Bays, up to Sandspit via SH16 and West Coast/Woodcocks Road, then out to Matakana and over the hill to Whangaripo, gas up in Wellsford and down SH16 to Hoteo, then Peak Road Taylor Road to Muriwai, then back through the back, Oaia Taiapa Road to Hinau, then around the back of Kumeu, through Riverhead and back to the Bays. Epic.
Was going to add some pics but its not happening for some reason.
OldBeer: Hello and thank you for sharing! Nice looking ride<g>.
Hello everyone,
Here are the details of the KLR Ramblers ride for August.
Hopefully the weather will be nice, but this is an all weather ride. Something very dramatic need to happen to postpone it. 🙂

Hi Guys, Just thought id chuck up a few of my favourite roads for guys based around warkworth and rodney who dont want to go to far.
# pakiri hill (through leigh) nice ride and north end turns to fun gravel.
# Pakiri beach ( follow the coast)
# Head in land and smash through ryan road ( changes to Pritchard) ths one good fun with awsome veiws.
# then just explore through Te arai and tomorata ( good farm tracks etc)
# also out west is oneriri road in Kaiwaka and Oruawharo south of Kaiwaka. Both are one way but fun rides for an afternoon or evening. If you carry on Oruawharo right to the end you can go past the cemetary and down a mud track onto the beach at the end!
# Wharahine’s run road is a good place to explore also
Hope this stems some adventure for someone!
Thanks for sharing @rustclebrown, would be keen to join you one of these weekends and have you lead a ride through those roads. maybe if you have the GPX files you can share them here?
I tried to go in to pakiri beach but saw a bunch of signs saying that motorcycles were not allowed… did not have the courage to get in…
Yea im unsure about riding the actual beach allthough ive seen guys doing on quads to go long lining etc so maybe if your quiet about it. Will be getting out in a few weeks but currently the trusty stead is awaiting some parts. Is anyone doing the distinguished gentlemans ride or is it just for classics and towny bikes?
thanks @rustclebrown let us know when you plan to go out and maybe we can join you.
I’m not doing the distinguished gentlemans ride no.
Hi @rustclebrown, was up your way yesterday, went to Sandspit for a cuppa and lunch then to Buckletons Beach. Kind of ran out of time but was going to go over the Matakana Hill. Ducked home via woodcocks/west coast road and SH16 back to the shore.
Not very adventurous but great roads none the less. Look forward to catching up on a ride one of these days.
Some great roads in Rodney.
Went to Scotts Landing today to see if it was still there. It is.
Thanks for the reminder @rustclebrown, I went that way today on my way back from Maungatoroto, great roads and nobody but me on them (mostly) 🙂
some more pics….
‘@OldBeer I would love to do these roads with you one of these weekends and map them out so we could add them to the North Island tracks list…
Joao
Here they are Joao…. but yes to riding them again – a very nice day on the bike

Thank you,
you got me with “down a mud track onto the beach at the end!”
🙂
Awsome pics! Yep they are good up there. Funny your comment about scotts landing! Got to watch those speed bumps! Next time you head through snells beach head out scandretts bay road. its only about a 1 minit drive but its gravel and it heads along a ridge give you magic veiws. You can see the sky tower on a good day. Keep it up! Im hoping to get out and about on the weekend but will have to see closer to time. probably sunday.
I feel it’s about time for an Urban escape.
So looking to get away for a few days in October, hoping that the thermometer lifts a bit.
I’m still trying to lock down family arrangements but it will be somewhere in the second week of October. I plan to be away 5 days and camp.
Anyone welcome to join for what time they can 1/2 day or more. I will be taking in some of the gravel roads described in @Adventure Riding New Zealand, like Waipuna rd,Hauturu rd, Pomerangai rd, Taumatamaire rd and many more. Plan is to tour, take photos and try and plot route with descriptions for ARNZ site.
Days will be 300 – 400kms each and a 300km fuel range needed. If anyone is interested roll maps and route will be available as will any other information.
Is it cool for big bikes?
Hi guys,
We are planning and preparing the Labour Weekend Rally (3 days to Reinga and back), soon to be published on the site. just letting you know, because it might be a good opportunity for you to ride in October as part of the rally.
Cheers

Hi, I’m an event organiser through the Meetup Group Auckland Motorcycles. If anyone wants to join up on tomorrows (Sat 16th) short tikitour north from Kumeu the links here: http://meetu.ps/3d3rJ6
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the invite and I think some of us may have been keen except that we are running a stand at the Motorcycle show and all hands on deck (well many anyway ?)
Maybe next time
Where was oldbeer today????
He was here…
Nice! any good challenges up there?
Not really, unless you count road surface chewed up by logging trucks. But I ran out of time to get to the water’s edge and so didnt get the scenic views I was hoping for. Next time I will do it properly and log the route
A very good ramble yesterday with the KLR team. Great weather and good turnout. There are some pics on the Facebook page. Thanks to Hermann for leading.
Hi,
I am jealous and happy at the same time. It is a shame i could not ride on the weekend at all, and happy you had such a good time.
Thank you @herman.prinsloo for taking care of this ride.
@OldBeer would you mind if a couple of pictures will make it’s way to the klrramblers.wordpress.com?
Andrew
And I did go out yesterday, had some time to play with my birthday toy!… Click the image to watch the video.
This Saturday morning Heavy Hitters Muriwai Beach ride
Must have just missed you guys. Went to muriwai around 11am. I went in up by the sandpit though where were you ?
We never got off the beach, am heading back up tomorrow morning if you get this
Hi Mark what time are you going?
Murawia ride with Joao @Joao and Wayne
Hey guys looks like most of the time you guys head North, but for the occasions port Waikato and the west coast outings.
Long story short (or possibly long as I type as I think)… I am based in the north Waikato. But an currently converlesing from a work place injury, but have riden some of the eastern bays south of Auckland before and the Clevedon area. There is some nice winding sealed road, with good views here. And can be linked into the seabird coast, from there one could dog leg in to the Hanuia forest, or carry on south to Miranda and return to Auckland via the Hanuia forest and past the water resivours. Aulternitvely the rout could be ran in reverse.
So this leaves a couple of questions. One has any if you charming JAFAs ? explored these areas? And Two Who would like to explore these areas with me, and plot some of the gravel roads? Or alternatively would you prefer I scouted them first, plotted a course and created an event?
I rode around the Miranda coast of the forest a month or so back and couldn’t find a way in, others have also commented that there’s no access into there, it’s all private forestry apparently.
https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/forums/topic/random-adventure-riding-pics/page/7/#post-18998
The roads are shut off by watercare they use them as access to there water supply dams
Hadge, Am expecting to move closer to you soon (Waiuku Pukekohe)
So will be keen once dust settles
Time to break out the WR maybe
The KLR Ramlbers ride is this weekend https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/pec-events/klr-ramblers-ride-november/

https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2017/11/20/november-ride-report-2/
Thank you all for turning up for this ride in such an awesome number! I hope everyone enjoyed the ride despite the unexpected road closure which “slightly” altered out route. 🙂

Did a Coromandel gravel tour with a few guys and a gal on the weekend. Great fun despite the rain that was meant to blow over! A few mishaps along the way between us all, In order: 1x dropped bike doing a u turn on soft road edge, 1x dropped bike on deep gravel, 1x Highside on wet road with cold knobblies, 2x counts of target fixation ending with bike in ditch, and 1 count of being a silly bugger riding up a steep track and nearly going bush! It ain’t called adventure riding for nothing 😀
Tapu-Coroglen Road: Good condition, road works near the end.
[/img]
[url
309 Road: Good condition. Seems to be more and more tar all the time 🙁
[/img]
[url
Portjackson/Fletcher Bay Road: Pretty good condition, worsening towards Fletchers with exposed clay.
[/img]
[url
PortCharles Road: Bare in places, but base is hard so plenty of grip.
[/img]
[url
Stonybay Road: Some gnarlier gravel in places, and probably my favorite road of the trip.
[/img]
[url
Waikawau-Tuateawa Road: Some deep gravel and road works in places. I think the only time i felt the need to stand up for extended periods. Looks to be Tarsealing sections after little bay 🙁
[/img]
[url
Victoria Steet: A very unassuming place and name for a gravel road. Good condition some larger chunkier bits near the end from being graded.
[/img]

All in a bloody great weekend!!

Hi Hadrian,
I am planning some easy cruising for tomorrow, but your place is a 200km round trip just to get there and back for me 🙁
In my magic crystal ball I can see a weekend Waikato ride for February (maybe Jan).
I hope we can catch up then.
Andrew
