Okay Andrew maybe I can see you in the Waikato around then then… Feb/jan isn’t far away.
These are all easy gravel road planned for today as I am only just recovering from a injury.
If your a night Owl or an early riser this might be for you
Some of us are meeting up at the BP Bombay tomorrow at 9am and heading to Port Wiakato and perhaps over to Nikua caves
‘@Mark Claasen any pics from last week?
Is anyone heading out tomorrow?
Hi everyone,
From Awakino early morning to Wanganui. 🙂
Andrew
Hey guys I’m doing a Westcoast (Raglan, Kawhia etc)and Taranaki tunnels ride Sat 24th-Mon 26th.
If it sounds like a bit of you and can get Mon off your welcome to come along 🙂
https://www.meetup.com/Auckland-Motorcycles/events/247558975/
I don’t have much knowledge of the Naki other than SH43 itself, so the maps aren’t set in stone, and happy to be a sponge for any info you have or if the route could be improved 🙂 Second Day is Okau Tunnel, Kiwi Road (Tunnel), Moki Road (tunnel), Uruti Road Tunnel, Otaraoa Road Tunnel, Mangaopa Road Tunnel
Being eyeing a few paper roads in the area if i have time/gas. Anyone have knowledge of the Jury Road (101B Jury Rd, Te Wera 4392) and Mt Damper road (Mount Damper Rd, Tangarakau 4397) paper roads? I have confirmed both are public access via WAMS although that’s about all the info i can find.
Sounds like you have the best bits covered. Road from Marokopa to Awakino not to be missed. If you plan to head into tunnel central from the Ohura end and across the Waitaanga Roads, then consider Waitewhena Road from Aria to Ohura, very nice bit of gravel. All the Taranaki stuff is very good.
Don’t know anything about the paper roads
Hope the weather is good for you.
Got out to Muriwai with a couple of others today. Ended up doing the beach access to Wilson Road. After all the rain lately its nicely packed and was good fun.

Thinking of going for coffee on Saturday, short notice I know but anyone keen for a ride about?
Rob,what time are you planning to reach the cafe? Thinking about doing the matching section of the T2B trail starting from the Riverhead Z petrolstation. Andrew
Hi Andrew,
Hadn’t given it much thought, just feeling out interest at this stage. It is going to be a full day so earlier the better – before the heat / dust gets up.
What is the T2B trail? Is there a ride already going?
Taa
Rob
T2B is a new track a group of members have put together: https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/gps-tracks-rides/new-zealand-t2b-route/
Pretty cool, would take a few days to do that
I did it in 2 days on my drz250. Ararua Road (parallel to Bull road) was one of my favourite bits but Andrew, it might be a good idea to check out Robs route to see if there are even better roads to add in to T2B? Apparently Girls High School Road is also good…
I can recommend the Office at Maungatapere if the Parakao is out of lattes…
Have a great ride guys
Edit……I rode the bit from Reinga to Maungatoroto in two days, not the whole thing….
Should not post past my bedtime….
Thanks Ed, now got it
Thanks OldBeer great idea, yes there are plenty of good cafe destinations along or around that route that could be explored if the whole distance is too long time wise. All options considered. 🙂
Doing a ride on Anzac day, Leaving Kumeu 11am, up the guts to Puhoi then check out Moir Hill paper road https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/gps-tracks-rides/north-island-tracks/moir-hill-road/ Wellsford for gas then explore the gravel/sand at Tapora. Sound like a bit of you? More info and RSVP at http://meetu.ps/e/Fbpvc/tcJW9/f
I’m in, where in Kumeu do you want to meet up?
Joao
Details for meet point are on in the link, once rsvp’d. Or alternatively pm me for meet point and ill write you as going (as I have put the word out on here, fb pages and meetup, it’s hard to keep track of the conversations and whos going, makes my life easier if i know who’s going in the one place.) Someone posted a pretty muddy picture of around there on FB, but trying to confirm it was in fact Moir road and not Baker road (one of the paper roads off Moir Hill Road. Sat imegrgy still looks pretty open, where photo looked closed in.
Done.
Moirs Hill is easy road. There are a few other tracks in there that are quite nice and a bit more challenging for the ones keen to try a bit more than just gravel riding.
I would also be keen to try Barker Rd, from Ahuroa Rd to Moirs Hill Rd, just to see if it is passable. From satelite there is a road, but I don’t know if one can take it.
This is the picture. My tyre pretty worn and one of the reasons for this ride was to wear it out and replace with the new one. Now I’m thinking I should swap over tonight, but knowing my luck I’d pinch the tube and be buggered for tomorrow!
Ahh that is not moirs hill main road. maybe one of the side tracks… MY rear tyre is also very worn out no need to change tyre overnight.
Sweet as then, thanks for that Joao. See you tomorrow.
That looks like Barker to me. I did that a while ago on tbe 250. Scott Livingston was on a dr650. Theres a wooden fence at the top we had to wrangle tbe bikes through. You might not get the gs through there Joao. Best go from the top down unless you dont mind turning around and going back. It’ll be pretty muddy…
A Good day out. 4 Paper roads to have a squiz/go at today, Chatham, Valley, Moir Hill, and track to Manukapua Island. Small selection of best photos, more to be had on the album at https://www.meetup.com/Auckland-Motorcycles/events/250059171/ for those interested. Will have to organise a day just dedicated to Moir Hill, so many places to explore there.
KLR Ramblers ride – May
Hi,
Here are the details of the May KLR Ramblers ride.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2018/05/10/klr-ramblers-ride-may-2/
Do not be frightened by the name of the ride, all kind of bikes are welcome not just KLRs. 🙂
Also, trying to transform the KLR Ramblers to something more “future proof”.
Read the details here.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/2018/04/29/long-term-plans/
We are looking for 2 more committed riders who can help with the rides in the 2018-2019 riding season.
Also, there is an “Events Calendar” on the KLR Ramblers site to make easier to keep up with what is happening. It is a Google Calendar, so you can easily integrate it into your mobile phone or desktop PC calendar.
https://klrramblers.wordpress.com/events-calendar/
Rode Krippner, Tahekeroa, Kaipara Hills and Old Kaipara Roads today. All in great shape and mostly have very good graded surfaces, bit of corrugation here and there. Two of us with road tyres had no problems anywhere. Was a nice afternoon. Nice not to have a lungful of dust.
Cheers
Im heading out to Northern Wairoa early Saturday to explore the Kumara Triangle between Dargaville Maungatapere and Maungatoroto. Will include some of the T2B route but lots of others too. No fixed route plans.
Happy to have some company. Some great roads here if you havent done them.
What a shame… I cannot make it. just flying back home today… I’m actually very keen to explore that area.
Enjoy!
Well I had a blast… Lots of roads ridden, mostly gravel (once I got up there) and virtually no traffic. Beautiful winter afternoon sunlight, native bush, lovely gravel roads, who could ask for more?? Me!!, I’m going back!!
This was what I got done today. Will do the rest another time
Mid Winter Christmas Ride Muriwai
This Saturday 23rd Meet 11am at the beach end of Coast Rd past the Golf course
This will not be a slow ride and I plan to run up to the end of the beach 50km’s,
If you want to go slower bring a mate and we can have meet up points.
Sounds good, I’ll see if I can move my commitments ahead. Is it the car park right at coast road beach access point you want to meet?
I’m in! see you there!
Yep that’s the one
https://www.google.co.nz/maps/place/Muriwai/@-36.8195784,174.422708,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x6d0d0d7aa12c1959:0x500ef6143a2e7e0!8m2!3d-36.8362109!4d174.4340691
That will be great Joao haven’t caught up for ages bro
Me too, but I won’t be trying to keep up.
True, looking forward to it.
@badgelly No need to worry mate, we have about 3 hours of rideable beach to go and get back plenty of time.
From the sounds of things there may be two groups and we are going to have meet up points along the way
Was thinking we should have a buddy system where we join with another rider as team and look after each other
Might not make it by 11, don’t wait for me
Thanks Mark for organizing. Was a great day to get out on the sand. History on the shipwreck @ https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/LT18650323.2.10?end_date=31-12-1865&phrase=0&query=daring%20wreck%20kaipara&start_date=01-01-1865

Wilson Paper Road and cleaning the bikes in the Okiritoto Stream

.
Great day today guys.
Thanks for organising Mark.
‘@Mark Claasen Any pictures to share? especially the ones with the bike dropped on the sand?
You were too quick picking up the bike for me to snap a photo Joao 😛 This was as close as I got, and a couple of action shots. Can give you link to the vids if wanted
Ooh I have the dirt on it all 🙂
Last minute announcement for Moroccan sand adventure, Meet 9;15am tomorrow at the usual, you will need proper tires if you want to do any of this, We will run up the beach and stop at the wreck for some who want to site see but its the usual you’ll need a budy if you want to run your own pace
(meet at the beach end of Coast Rd past the Golf course (Tide is low at 10:16)
This will not be a slowest of rides and we plan to run up to the end of the beach 50km’s,) as well as other stuff
If you have lesser tires that will be ok for the beach but not much else so plan to split with us at some stage.
Disclaimer, Remember these are private rides only and casual so you need to take full responsibility for yourself (obviously 🙂 )
Would anyone be keen on heading out for a Gravel blat to Whatipu around lunchtime tomoorow (Sun,) maybe Anawhata too if going good for time? Leaner friendly ride. If there’s interest i’ll knock something together, otherwise ill just head out when i get the chance 🙂
