Cycling appropriates “Adventure’ and ‘Dual Sport’ labels for their own use

I’d been wondering why there had been a sudden increase in cyclists trying to register for the Adventure Riding NZ website over the past few months til an advert popped up in my Facebook feed a week or so ago.

It seems that cycling, and from what I saw Trek in particular now use ‘Adventure’ and ‘Dual purpose’ as marketing tags for a number of their offerings. So if you start getting a bit confused as some of the adverts you’re suddenly seeing around the internet, this might be why.

Same applies to the term “Enduro” which at least in Europe is only used to describe a type of motorbike or competition with those motorbikes. Here it is used also in the pushbike world. Was that always the case ?
