Hi all, first time on the site so I thought I’d share my recent ride on my fairly new to me Tiger 800…keen to hear of other ride ideas round top of the south and further south……

A new set of Anakee’s on my tiger demanded a test ride so off to Tapawera via country roads, down the dry weather rd to Murch. Over Maruia saddle and Rahu saddle (what a bit of tarmac!) to Reefton, round the back of Brunner via Nelson Creek and up over Arthurs into the wet mist at Lake Lydon for a beer and bed at Methven.

Day 2 over Haka pass, the Danseys (corrugated to hell going up!!) then into Ranfurly and up over the Old Dunstan Rd and then Lake Onslow Rd. Beer and bed in Roxburgh.

Off first thing to Rae’s Junction and Gore for breakfast (bloody good it was) up the side of Wakatipu into the hell of Qtown and out over the Crown  over the Hast and a night in the pub with 2 Oamaru Ulyless members.

Then with heavy rain forecast a sprint up the coast, except where a cop followed me the last 15km into Hoki, done at 101kph! through the Buller, back over the Dry Weather to Tap. and home for tea.

A great weekend 2200km 25 hrs riding and av. speed of 85…..

  1. Hey Shane, so far loving the Tiger, much better on the road than a 21 front wheel would suggest, weight is a bit high up for serious gnar offroad, but sweet as on gravel, good track etc.  Wont handle like an XR!! but opens up loads of backroad rides away from the traffic!!..

    Cheers

  2. Hi mate.

How are you finding the Tiger? just looking at coming of the sealed roads and getting into this. Looking at a Tiger 900 Rally.

Been a few years since the days I rode a XR around the joints.
