I met the grader working on Kaka Road yesterday so the gravel is a wee bit loose but will settle in quickly with the usual local traffic.
Just adding this pic so you know that Kaka Road heading east to west provides great views out to the Tasman. A word of caution, which applies to any gravel road. While I was parked roadside taking this photo, a Toyota ute went barreling past kicking up gravel and dust and the scary bit was this ute had been doing the same thing on the wrong side of the road on several blind corners while coming up the hill – visible from the tyre tracks on the road. It was a timely reminder to always keep well left!
Kaka Road in April 2017. Photos out of order sorry. we travelled from Uruti to Okoki. First photo is near the end of Kaka, second is the intersection with Uruti, third and fourth are going up the hill after the intersection.
