  1. North Range Road will not be affected by the new Te Ahu a Turanga – Manawatu Tararua Highway as the new highway is on the other side of the Manawatu Gorge.

North Range Road doesn’t dry out even in the height of summer because there are natural springs seeping water all year round.

  2. North Range Road may be no more due to the new Te Ahu a Turanga – Manawat? Tararua Highway that is replacing the Manawatu Gorge Road SH3, which was closed in 2017 due to major landslides.

The video below is a flyover of the new route which passes right through the windfarm.

  3. Went over this today for the first time. It’s my new favourite road.

Tracks a bit cut up between the two windmill stations. Lots of big puddles but all with solid bases.

Had 705’s on with road pressures and had no issue going everywhere. Road was damp from drizzle but mostly dry

  4. Last went over it back in the late nonties on my r65. Great views and would think surface is much better now road services the wind farm

  5. I rode this route last weekend 30/04/2016 and found it not to bad yes it has a few big puddles in the middle and there are a few deep washed out sections but overall it was quite a pleasant ride.

  6. Just rode this route on 18-11-2014…although there weren’t any actual river crossings, there were a good number of “puddles” of standing water on the road…2 or 3 were deep enough to go over my boots while walking across. The bottom of them were surprising solid though, with good traction…I’d expected them to be a lot more slick/muddy/soft than they were.
All in all was a great little ride though! Was nice to get a little break from the tarmac on my way from Napier to Wellington!
